Special Store Hours: Stores are holding special hours for seniors to shop during the COVID-19 situation. Here are some stores and their senior hours: 

  • Costco: Tuesday and Thursday 8 am to 9 am
  • Walmart: Tuesday 6 am
  • Giant Food: 6 to 7 am every day
  • Target: 8 am to 9 am every Wednesday
  • Dollar General: 8 am to 9 am everyday

Virtual Senior Center: With the senior center closed, Frederick County has created a virtual senior center online for those 50 and older. Check it out!

Veteran Care Resources: There are many resources available for veterans and their families regarding their health care and benefits and information about COVID-19. Click here for information.

Senior Call Check: This free service will place an automated daily call to you at a regularly scheduled time. If the call is not picked up after three attempts, the service will call an alternate person on your behalf to check on you. Learn more here.

Colorectal Cancer Screening: Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Legal Program: Civil Justice, Inc is starting a state-wide program providing low-cost wills and other legal documents to seniors of low to moderate income. Read this flyer to learn more.

Hungry Harvest: Every Wednesday at the teaching kitchen of the Frederick YMCA. Come pick up a $7 bag of fresh fruit and veggies ($15 value compared to grocery stores). Click here to view the flyer.

Groceries for Seniors: On the first Friday of each month, the Frederick Senior Center provides free groceries for seniors in their drive-thru. Distribution starts at 1:00 p.m. and continues until all food has been distributed.

Eldercare Locator: The Eldercare Locator is a nationwide service that connects older Americans and their caregivers with trustworthy local support resources. Click here to visit the website.

Frederick Support Group for Chronic Diseases: This is a free support group open to anyone with a chronic disease diagnosis and their supportive person. The group is led by community members with support from Frederick Memorial Hospital and the Frederick County Health Department. Click here to view the flyer.

 

Community Events & Activities

Spring Activities Cancelled: Frederick County Senior Services 50+ Community Centers have canceled all scheduled classes, activities, day trips, and events for the Spring Quarter. Center supervisors will begin processing refunds for all pre-paid classes and events for the period of April 1st through June 30th. People who are due a refund can expect to receive a check from Frederick County Government for the full amount of their registration fees. Please note, due to limited staffing, refunds may take up to 30 days to process. In the event 50+ Community Centers reopen at any time during the spring quarter, fitness classes, activities, and other events will resume as pay as you go/drop-in sessions for that quarter.
